Carolyn W. Gaines  received an Honorary Degree from the Rhythm & Blues University in Texas March 2015. The blues great educator will now be called Dr. Carolyn Gaines. The President PhD Lawrence N. Redd said,’’ Carolyn Gaines has helped to preserve an invaluable cultural and music history over the course of her multi-faceted blues career in high recognition. We are pleased and proud to bestow our award upon her.”

Gaines who is the President of the Blues Schools Program for 15 years worked with Los Angeles, Hawthorne, Pasadena Unified School Districts in efforts to keep Blues alive. She has educated 3 Million students about, B.B. King, Bobby Blue Bland, Lonnie Johnson, Blind Boy Fuller, Blind Lemon Jefferson,T-Bone Walker, Bessie Smith, Ma Rainey, Buddy Guy, Muddy Waters, Alberta Hunter, Guitar Shorty, Etta James, Ida Cox, Shemekia Copeland, Ray Charles, Carlos Santana, Keb Moe, Hubert Laws, Grady Gaines, and Roy Gaines.

Her choice to conserve the blues was a good one, obviously, because she has picked up awards from Alma Reaves Woods Watts Library, First Lady Michelle Obama, 74th Street Elementary School, Crenshaw High School, Jan Perry Los Angeles City Council, Roy Romer Superintendent LAUSD , Diane E.
